This was taken on an unusually warm New Year’s Eve day on Parkman Mountain, during a time when a lot in my life was changing. The warm air moving over cold ground made the woods breathe with fog, and every break in the trees seemed to turn into a shaft of light.
Some days feel like they are trying to tell you something. I don’t know that they really are, but standing there in the spruce and mist, with sunbeams cutting through the forest, it was hard not to feel like I had walked into one of those rare moments when the outside world briefly matched the inside one — unsettled, beautiful, and full of change.
