Above the Fog on Parkman Mountain

from $70.00

This was the last photograph from that same New Year’s Eve climb on Parkman Mountain. After the sunbeams in the woods, the trail opened onto granite, sky, cloud, and fog rolling below like the mountain had lifted itself above the rest of the day.

When I posted this at the time, people loved it, and I understood why. It had that feeling you hope for when you carry a camera up a trail — the sudden reward, the view that makes the climb worth it, the moment when the weather, light, and place all briefly agree.

For me, it also marked the end of that strange, beautiful walk: warm air over cold ground, fog moving through the island, and a year ending in a way I still remember.
